Resident Evil The Final Chapter (2017)

  June 28, 2017

Editor Doobie White must have had the T-Virus while he was editing this film.

It's hard to understand what Sony was thinking for even releasing something like this. Looking at you Paul W.S Anderson, what were you thinking? The only interesting part of this movie to me was the highway tank chase and gasoline trebuchet scenes near the beginning. The new characters that Alice meets up with are some of the most blank empty characters I have ever seen in a film ever, and even their deaths are boring. I give Resident Evil movies credit for being fun and entertaining, even though I know they are mostly bad. However for Resident Evil The Final Chapter the terrible editing, changes to the origional storyline, and boring predictible scenes make this one of the worst films I have ever seen.

The sad part about this is that Sony made over $300,000,000 at the box office, making this the highest grossing Resident Evil film in the franchise. I rented this on Google Play for $3.99. This will be the only Resident Evil movie that I don't buy on Blu-Ray.

  The Mummy (2017)

  June 10, 2017

The Mummy (2017) is out and it comes as a disappointment for fans of the classic Universal Monsters movies. It's not a terrible movie, but it is boring, not scary, and overall it's not very good. The movie spends too much time setting up the Dark Universe at the expense of it's own plot.

Financially, the movie did well and hit $150 million versus it's budget of $125 million, so you can expect more of the Dark Universe films to go through, with the next one rumored to be coming out in 2019.

I know that personally I am not very interested in seeing CGI filled action adventure Monsters movies. I would prefer more classic style and slower films made for a specific market instead of them making generic Marvel style hero movies.

  Resident Evil Series Review

  April 16, 2017

Mainstream critics will be upset about the lack of plot or deeper meaning behind the story. Movies in the Resident Evil series are action horror, with an emphasis on the action. They contain hot girls, lots of guns, awesome sets, monsters, and fun slow motion gore set to music. Try not to think about them too much and just enjoy them for the good guilty entertainment that they are.

I'll break it down quickly here.

RE1 The White lab one with the laser grid.
RE2 The blue one in Racoon City with a sizeable population running around.
RE3 The orange desert one with the school bus and mechanic zombies in crates.
RE4 The One where an airplane lands on a prison and has Kim Coates in it.
RE5 The One where everything happens in every setting, and everyone is alive.

Resident Evil Retribution & Resident Evil The Final Chapter reviews are coming soon.

  Scream Queens on Netflix

  March 26, 2017

I know it has been out for some time now but I highly recommend Scream Queens. Emma Roberts is really spectacular and I hope she continues to star in horror related projects. I almost never like comedy movies but this is something special because It's a horror comedy from the creators of American Horror Story. It has an amazing mix of 80s and 90s slasher horror elements and tributes, including the Scream Queen herself, Jamie Lee Curtis.

Emma Roberts did say on her instagram that she is currently working on other projects, and as of right now Season 3 has not been confirmed.

You can watch it now on Netflix.

Train to Busan on sale for 0.99 cents on Google Play

  March 18, 2017

You can pickup Train to Busan for 0.99 cents on the Google Play store. This is 94% off. This is one of the best horror films of 2016. It is not just a zombie movie, it deals with relationships between the characters and has a healthy dose of Korean drama as well.

Official Synopsis
TRAIN TO BUSAN is a harrowing zombie horror-thriller that follows a group of terrified passengers fighting their way through a countrywide viral outbreak while trapped on a suspicion-filled, blood-drenched bullet train ride to Busan, a southern resort city that has managed to hold off the zombie hordes... or so everyone hopes.

  Region locking is outdated silliness

  March 17, 2017

I ordered a PAL Region 2 copy of The Gene Generation from the Canadian ebay.ca because I was not paying close enough attention. Did you know that on Windows 10 (and Windows 7,8) you can only change the region settings a total of four times? I did change my DVD drive to region 2 and VLC player still would not play the movie. You can apparently get around the region switch limit, but you need to install unauthorized firmware.

In order to switch your Windows DVD drive region back to region 1, you have to insert a region 1 disk. I tried Grindhouse Girls Guns and Gore which did not work because Windows did not recognize the region. Eventually Crimson Peak worked.

Back in the VHS tape days, the United States and Europe developed television and broadcast resolution differently which is understandable. Having different formats in that time made more sense because when you are using an analog tape and a composite video connection, the resolution is what it is.

Now that we all have upsampling blu ray players and game consoles that change the output resolution of a DVD anyway, I don't see a purpose for having our disks locked to multiple different regions other than distributors wanting to control the availability of their content worldwide. I will always support paying for media, but lets keep it real region locking is not the best idea going forward when we now have two full generations of consumers who understand how VPNs and torrents work.

Splatter - The forgotten first Netflix Original?

  March 12, 2017

Most people are probably unaware of the early attempt that Netflix made at at creating original content. Before Netflix started to produce content like House of Cards in 2013, there was a 2009 web series called Splatter. Netflix used this show as a test for streaming services which they correctly assumed to be the future of their company. Customers were able watch the show on Netflix website.

Rock star Johnny Splatter played by Corey Feldman (Gremlins, The Goonies) kills himself on camera. His producer, psychiatrist, ex girlfriend, and ex band members show up at his funeral to watch a video where Johnny reads out his will. Splatter was shot as a low budget B movie by director Joe Dante. The unique part about this show is that Dante had planned to allow the audience to vote on which character would die next.

The show itself is not very good even for B movie standards, but it is an interesting piece of Netflix history that most people are not aware of. The show ended up only airing 3 episodes over October 29, November 6, and November 13. Depending on your region, Splatter may still be available on Netflix.

Universal Monsters The Mummy - Will it be good?

  March 8, 2017

As Horror likely have mixed feelings on The Mummy 2017 after watching the trailer. What we want is a scary movie with a little bit of action, but focus on the horror and atmosphere thematically. It’s convenient Universal now says that the new shared universe does not include Dracula Untold, and it’s probably because that movie bombed at the box office.

  February 27, 2017

Never mind the fact that 2016 was one of the best years for horror movie releases in the last decade and not a single one of them was given any kind of recognition by the Academy, as of last night we are living in a time when Suicide Squad has an Academy Award. (For Best Makeup)

Let's take a look at Star Trek Beyond and quickly compare the makeup to Suicide Squad.
